This program named in honor of the late widow of civil rights leader Malcolm X- was designed to offer opportunities for personal, academic, and social development to preteen and early teenage girls. The Roanoke Alumnae Chapter has conducted the Delta Academy in the Roanoke Valley for over 10 years. Activities have included, but are not limited to Science, mathematics, public speaking, team building, writing essays, book clubs, saving money and college campus tours. Additionally participants have assisted in community projects like the Ronald McDonald House.
We are proud to be able to sponsor this after school activity for the school year 2011-2012 at William Byrd Middle School. The people responsible for working with the students will be Courtney Craggett and Mrs. Erica Rosser who is a teacher and member of our sorority. Other members of the Roanoke Alumnae Chapter will be working with the students in various activities during the year.
We want to share with you some of the planned activities for the 2011-2012 school years. We hope that you will feel comfortable in stopping by and participating in any of these activities over the coming months.
