Six Basic Principles of Time Management
(Based on the film:
“Time of Your Life” by Alan Lakein)

- LIST YOUR GOALS --- short
term and long term --- SET PRIORITIES.
- MAKE A DAILY “TO DO LIST” ---
make it the same everyday. Use it!
- START WITH A’s NOT WITH C’s
--- once you’ve made the “TO DO LIST,” categorize your activities into A,
B, and C units…then…take the B’s and redistribute them into the A group or
the C group thus leaving you with high-priority items and low-priority
items.
- ALWAYS ASK YOURSELF THE BASIC
QUESTION…”WHAT IS THE BEST USE OF MY TIME RIGHT NOW?” Do this
often whenever you seem to have a free moment…before class, after dinner,
Saturday morning, etc.
- HANDLE EACH PIECE OF PAPER JUST ONCE…if
you pick up a piece of mail or receive a note from a friend, act on it
before you put it down even if acting on it means making a date with
yourself to return the note or call.
- FINALLY…DO IT NOW…Don’t
procrastinate…remember the big projects are simply a lot of little
projects put together…look at the major project as simply a GOAL.
