Jorge and Maria

   "Come on, Jorge!" said Maria.

"In a minute!" Jorge shouted in a stubborn voice.  Jorge was poking a stick into a puddle.

It was Maria's job to walk her little brother Jorge home from school.  On most days Maria did this without a grumble.  The job wasn't always easy.  Jorge was a slow walker.  He was always stopping to look at this or that.

Today Maria needed to get home fast.  Her Aunt Lucia was visiting from Mexico, and Maria wanted to see her.  "Come on, Jorge!" Maria said again.  Still he did not move.  He mumbled something Maria couldn't hear.

Then something exploded inside Maria.  All of a sudden, she was really angry.  "Come here!  Ven aca! Now!"

At last Jorge looked up.  He darted over like a streak.  Maria took Jorge's hand.  It had taken two languages to get him to listen, but at last he did.
