Cave Spring Elem. Renovation Update - Nov 6, 2009
Front (New Administrative/Art & Music Addition):
Site Work: The front entrance (new administration and guidance areas) footer work has begun. They have begun excavation, installing rebar, and pouring concrete. The footer will be completely formed by Friday evening (11/7). Once complete structural steel will begin to be installed forming the framework for the new addition.
Work already complete: Fencing, Front Asphalt Demolition/Excavation/Rebar/Footers Poured.
New Kitchen & Cafeteria:
Site Work: Utility contractors were scheduled to begin excavating and relocating lines to the rear of the school on Monday. Piping was deeper than anticipated so engineers and contractors worked this week to develop a new plan because of the unexpected depth. A new plan was finished today and work will begin on Monday. A sanitary sewer and storm sewer line are being moved away from where the new kitchen and cafeteria is being built. A new gas meter needs to be replaced since the existing is on the outside of the existing gym wall which will become a part of a new hallway leading to the kitchen/cafeteria. Once this work is complete, footer excavation for the new kitchen and cafeteria will begin.
Work already complete: Fencing, E&S Control Installed, Playground Removed
Small Hallway Wing:
Inside Building Work
Contractors are currently installing ductwork and electrical conduits. Masonry patch work has been worked on all week and nearly complete.
New footers should be poured next week for the new bearing walls. Once this is complete the new block bearing walls will begin to be constructed.
Work already complete: Demolition (Utilities/Walls/HVAC Units/Chalkboards/Bearing Walls/Ceilings), Construction of Shoring Walls, Trenching for New Footers, 10% Ductwork, 10% Electrical Conduit, 95% masonry patch.
Pre-K Addition:
Site Work: Currently this area has been cleared with the exception of the electrical transformers/pole supplying the school. This is work that will begin in Phase 2.
Work already complete: Removal of tree and stripping of topsoil.
Geothermal Well Drilling:
Geothermal well drilling has temporarily been halted. The required depth for these wells is 300'. The driller is having difficulty getting past 200' because of poor soil conditions. Alternatives are currently being investigated.
