WBMS students collect more than 1,300 juice boxes
Students in five different Family and Consumer Sciences classes at William Byrd Middle School participated in the annual Juice Drive to support the Southwest Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank. Over the course of a few weeks, students collected more than 1,300 juice boxes to help kick-off the 2009 Juice Drive.
“Helping out with this drive is one more way our students live by the pillars of Character Counts, especially Caring and Citizenship,” said WBMS principal Janet Womack.
Miss Central Virginia, Madison VanDuyne visited the school April 6 to meet the students and see first-hand how much juice the students collected. This is her second year helping with the Juice Drive.
“I am very proud of these students who have worked hard to help others in the community. I would love to see more schools and students in this area getting involved with this program to give back to the community,” said VanDuyne.
“We are so proud of these students for kicking off the Juice Drive with a bang. It’s great to see students dedicated to helping their peers who are struggling with hunger in southwestern Virginia and we wish all the other classes in our area the best of luck with their Juice Drives”, said Kitty Tabor, Food Procurement Manager at the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank.
