School Board statement on the current budget situation
Virginia’s children’s quality education could be damaged by budget cuts in Richmond.
- The state budget cuts will reduce funding from $1.2 to $1.8 Billion from our schools over two years
- Impact of Estimated Additional $723 million cut to K-12 by unfreezing the Local Composite Index (LCI) (source VEA)

If these cuts are made we will have cut $2.1 billion (16.3%) from K-12 funding since March of 2008.
These cuts will significantly damage the quality of our children’s education
- Even short term cuts will have long term effects on our kids
These cuts will not pay for schools necessary for our children’s future.
- Layoffs of an estimated 30,000 school personnel
- Mushrooming class sizes
- Loss of critical programs that will affect students and working parents
- Less personal instruction for at risk kids
- Long term effects on our children.
Don’t let it happen. Act now to stop this action by the General Assembly.
- Contact your state Delegate and state Senator and Governor McDonnell.
- Tell them to support a budget to which our children have a constitutional right to a high quality education
- Tell them to Keep the Promise to our Children.
