"Race to Nowhere" screening at NHS Sept. 12

Roanoke County Public Schools is proud to host a screening of the nationally-recognized film "Race to Nowhere"on Sept. 12, 2011 at the Northside High School auditorium at 7 p.m.

Admission is free - just go to http://rtnnhs.eventbrite.com/ to register and print tickets.

"Education in America is facing a crisis and it will be solved not by politicians in Washington, but by parents and teachers," said Roanoke County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lorraine Lange. "We need to come together to find a new way to teach our students and to measure their success without such high-stakes testing," Lange said.

"Our film is having a profound impact in the schools, on the ground, in the classrooms, in hearts and minds of teachers, parents and students," said director Vicki Abeles.

"'Race to Nowhere' is a call to action to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens. After seeing the film, your views on education and childhood will forever be changed. The film empowers everyone to get involved and take ownership of what's happening in our schools and communities." said Abeles.
