Schools To No Longer Accept Out-Of-County Students
The Roanoke County School Board has approved a change in the Roanoke County Public Schools policy concerning the admittance of students residing outside of Roanoke County. Beginning with the 2008-2009 school year, Roanoke County will no longer accept new students living outside of Roanoke County. The only exception to this change applies to the children of Roanoke County employees.
Current students who live outside of Roanoke County will be allowed to complete their education in Roanoke County Public Schools.
“Our schools are getting more and more crowded, especially at our high schools,” said School Board Chairman Jerry Canada. “We have to make sure we have room in our schools for students who live in Roanoke County. If our enrollment drops to a point where we have room for out-of-county students, we may review the policy at that time,” Canada said.
