Herman L Horn Float Wins Mayor's Award in Vinton Parade

Students painted small plastic milk jugs to assemble this tree.

As part of the annual Vinton Christmas Parade, students from all grade levels at Herman L. Horn Elementary worked to create a float entirely out of recycled materials. The float featured a fireplace made from cereal boxes, a tree made from green-painted plastic milk jugs and a snowman made entirely with white plastic grocery bags.

Vinton Christmas Parade judges awarded the school’s float the Mayor’s Award and presented the school with a $100 prize.

“We’re so proud of our students for their hard work and creativity,” said Herman L. Horn Principal and “Queen Bee” Susan Brown. “We were very surprised to win the Mayor’s Award. We thank everyone who came out to support our float in the parade,” Brown added.
