Myers named VASCD Outstanding Supervisor/Curriculum Leader of the Year

Dr. Julie Myers, principal at Glenvar Middle School, has been awarded with the 2010 Virginia Outstanding Supervisor/Curriculum Leader of the Year by the Virginia Association for Supervisors and Curriculum Development.
The award is intended to recognize school leaders whose focus on curriculum and instruction has promoted excellence in teaching and learning, increased student achievement, and created a positive school climate and culture.
“Dr. Myers’ leadership style and professional accomplishments embody the mission of the organization for all educators: to advance excellence in teaching, learning, and leading. Her commitment to effective instructional practices and continuous professional growth and development provide a culture of learning for students, staff, and educators throughout the state. Dr. Myers exemplifies the spirit and intent of VASCD’s Curriculum Leader of the Year Award,” said Virginia ASCD Executive Director Ann Etchison.
“Dr. Myers is an outstanding leader who puts others at ease as she supports and guides them, all while leading by example. She is a visionary and a lifelong learner whose passion lies in making staff development, curriculum development, and instruction truly meaningful. Dr. Myers’ deep understanding of both teachers’ needs and students’ needs inspires awe and respect from all those who know her. ‘To reach out and impact all learners’ is her unspoken philosophy,” said Roanoke County Superintendent Dr. Lorraine Lange.
