Calling All Freshmen: “Knights In Training”
Cave Spring High School will host their third annual “Knights In Training” event for all upcoming ninth graders on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 2:00-5:30 p.m., followed by a cook-out from 5:30-6:00 p.m. (see agenda below).
The purpose of this event is to introduce the new ninth graders to the high school prior to the beginning of the school year. Activities include tours of the school, team building activities, a Q&A session, CSHS Traditions, and a “Dress Code Do’s and Don’ts Fashion Show” to showcase dress code policies. School staff and teachers volunteer their time to plan the program.
There will be a laptop orientation session to explain laptop policies and to discuss Internet safety. There will also be a session on “How To Succeed In High School by Really Trying” withCSHS guidance staff. The focus is to share important tips about study habits and effective time management, as well as how to calculate a grade point average (GPA). “We have received very positive feedback from ninth graders and parents about this event and it has become an annual tradition. Last year, over 50% of the freshmen attended. This year, we have two-thirds of the students and parents signed up to participate”, said Diane Herchenrider, Assistant Principal.
