School board approves 2013-2014 calendar

The Roanoke County School Board has approved the 2013-2014 school calendar. School will begin on August 27. Winter break will run from Dec. 23 to Jan. 1. Spring break will run from April 18 to April 25. The last day of school will be June 4 with graduation on June 6.

A provision included in the proposed budgets passed by the Virginia House and Senate grants a one-year waiver extension to those schools meeting the criteria for the pre-Labor Day opening waiver for the current school year.

The calendar adopted by the school board is pending final passage of the state budget by the General Assembly and signing by Governor McDonnell.
