The Buses are Back!


School buses return to the road across Roanoke County as students begin the 2010-2011 school year August 23.  The Roanoke County Public School system reminds drivers to watch out for stopped school buses in the morning and afternoons. 

In Virginia, motorists are required by law to stop for a school bus that is loading or unloading children, whether the motorist is following a bus or approaching a bus from the opposite direction, with one exception:  motorists are not required to stop for a school bus if they are driving in the opposite direction on a road that is separated by a median or barrier.  Motorists must remain stopped until all children are clear of the roadway and the bus starts moving again.
