Balsley named Roanoke Region Librarian of the Year
Heather Balsley, librarian at William Byrd Middle School, has been named the 2011 Roanoke Region Librarian of the Year by the Virginia Educational Media Association (VEMA). The Roanoke Region includes 15 cities and counties surrounding the greater Roanoke Valley. Balsley now is in the running for the statewide Librarian of the Year Award, which will be awarded in Richmond in November.
“Heather is a great librarian who truly cares about student reading. She constantly works to encourage students to read and to discover through books. Heather also is one of the faculty leaders for our Rachel’s Challenge effort,” said Janet Womack, WBMS principal.
