Every student is welcome to participate. This is a great learning experience for your student and will introduce them to work they may be doing in middle or high school, but on a much smaller and simpler scale. Participating in a Science Fair gives your student a chance to dig deeper into science topics that they are interested in, but that we don’t have time to cover in depth at school. Participating in the fair can also build responsibility, self-esteem, and presentation skills, all of which are very valuable to a student’s academic and vocational success. Student projects may be completed individually or with a small group of friends (2 – 3 students). The projects are to be completed at home and brought to school on the afternoon of February 15th or morning of February 16th. Parents are allowed to assist their student, but the actual project should be completed by the student. Students are encouraged to select projects that require experimentation and use of the scientific process and critical thinking skills such as:· What is the effect of sunlight on plant growth?· How does water affect the growth of bread mold?· Do (toy) cars roll further on vinyl, wood flooring, or carpet when pushed with the same amount of force? There are many great web sites to help choose a project. Some of them are listed here: Click here to view and print the entry form |
