About Us

Goal/RCS Mission: It is the mission of Roanoke County Schools to ensure that all students participate in quality learning experiences necessary to grow, adapt and meet the challenges of a changing world.

Mission: It is the mission of Masons Cove Elementary to offer the opportunity for students to succeed academically and socially in our unique rural setting as well as becoming productive citizens in the global community.

Masons Cove Elementary School is part of Roanoke County Schools. We uphold Roanoke County's Mission.

Background: Masons Cove Elementary School was opened in January 1962, with 256 pupils. In September 1981, all Catawba students were transferred to Masons Cove when Catawba Elementary School was closed. Masons Cove Elementary School is a one-story brick building constructed in 1961. In 1963, an upper wing was added to accommodate the increasing enrollment. In 1967, a kitchen unit was added. A cafeteria and three additional classrooms were completed in the fall of 1987. In 1993, with an approximate enrollment of 320, a four classroom addition and air conditioning were added to the building.

The school has a very active parent-teacher association. The association has served the school with volunteers and contributions of materials and equipment. The Masons Cove PTA has received recognition for its outstanding membership.

A picnic shelter on campus funded and built by the PTA and Roanoke County, provides families and groups with a place to gather. A track and a garden are two additional projects that the PTA has been instrumental in securing.
