spelling beeSPELLING BEE WINNERS ANNOUNCED The school spelling bee was held last week. The school champion was Sreeroopa S. and the runner-up was Rohan C. Congratulations! Sreeroopa will advance to the Roanoke County Spelling Bee. Good luck!

 

appleGOLDEN APPLE AWARD NOMINEES   The following teachers have been nominated to receive a Golden Apple Award: Lisa Riddle, Mary Elmore, Ashley Shell, Rick Elliott, Ron Coleman, Amy Jacks, Cole Shepherd, Holland Long, Julie Barrette, Jordan Pinkard, Randy Boone, Sarah Bayer, Trey White, and William Tresky.We are proud of these teachers!

 

shaking handsTEACHERS WIN CLASSROOM GRANTS We are so fortunate to have so many teachers who take the initiative to plan and request funding for innovative projects. The Roanoke County Education Foundation has awarded classroom grants to the following teachers: Trey White, Lisa Riddle, Teresa Worth, Ron Coleman, Marilee Weikel, Mary Elmore, and Christine Morgan. We appreciate the generous support of the education foundation.

stop in food storesEXXON MOBILE GRANT AWARDED   HVM has been awarded a $500 grant from the Exxon Mobile corporation. This grant is generously facilitated through the folks at PMI Stop-In Food Stores who make an effort every year to support local schools through this program. We appreciate their donation and work on behalf of our students.

 

yearbookORDER YOUR 2011-12 YEARBOOK TODAY! Orders are now being taken for the 2011-12 yearboook, an historic year in the life of HVM. For personalized yearbooks with the student's name embossed on the front, the deadline is February 15. The deadline for ordering the regular edition is May 1. Don't delay; often parents put it off and then forget whether or not they have ordered the book. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees that there will be any extra books available for purchase once they come in. Click for the ordering link on the Herff Jones website. Please note that the school may be listed as "Hidden Valley Jr. HS".

 

stwHVM REDESIGNATED AS VIRGINIA SCHOOL TO WATCH! Congratulations to all of us in the HVM community as we celebrate our redesignation as part of the Virginia Schools to Watch program. Schools to Watch is a national program that recognizes middle schools that are on a trajectory of excellence in the areas of developmental responsiveness, social equity, and academic excellence. HVM was first designated in 2009 and was the first school west of Richmond and the northern Virginia area to receive this honor. For more information visit www.schoolstowatch.org
