LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER

Before summer break 2004, all of the library materials are packed away in storage, leaving empty shelves in the old library media center.

Walls have been removed in the wing where 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade used to be.  This space will be the library media center, art room, and a second computer lab.

This is going to be a library?  The walls have been removed, but some other things have yet to be torn out.

New windows rise above the rubble of construction.  The wing used to have four more classrooms extending on to the right of the picture, but they have been torn down.

Many pipes have to be installed in the floor, roof supports moved to new places, and new walls built.

Part of the roof over the media center is cut-away for the new high ceiling.

The new library chairs are here, but will be stored until the library is finished.

Posts are in place to hold up the new high ceiling.

The wall is built in between the posts.

The roof beams are put in place.  (Though Ms. McDaniel's old room has been torn down, one wall still stands and is now the outside of the library.  The red brick rectangle was where her chalk board used to be, surrounded by the white painted wall.)

Scaffolding holds the brick masons as they get more mortar from the fork lift.

The high ceilings and windows will help make the library a very pleasant place to be.

Windows will fill the space across the top and doors will give access to the patio.

The window frames are in place around the library's outside door.  The patio is being built out to the left of the picture, and the sidewalk will take you around either side of the wing.

Here framing is installed for the drywall to to be hung inside the library.

Outside, the glass and doors have been put into place, and the white paint has been removed from the outside walls.

Drywall, lights, and the upper glass have been installed, and the first coat of paint has been applied.  It won't be long until we're checking out books!

A Coke machine in the library?  No, the workmen will take that out with them.

The carpet is in and the paint is finished.  Our workers bring in our new furniture.  It looks great!

FINALLY!  Welcome to the Library Media Center!

After HOURS of volunteer help (and a few well-timed productive snow days), we have most things in place and in order.  A big THANK YOU to everyone who has made this great resource ready for our students.
