LEAVE NO DOUBT!!
Due to the overwhelming support for extending the 3rd grading period (due to instructional time lost to snow days,) the 3rd grading period will be extended from Friday March 14 to Friday March 21. The dates for processing grades will be changed accordingly with report cards being sent home on March 28. Teachers will be given credit for their workday (at home) on March 22.
Due to the inclement weather and in order to align with the testing change at the high schools, we will not begin SOL testing this week. We plan to begin testing on Tuesday, March 11 at the start of 2nd block (10:00 am) with the multiple choice section of the test. The writing prompt will be administered on Wednesday, March 12 at the start of the school day.Good attendance on these dates is encouraged.
Parents can support their students by reviewing material with them, encouraging them to get plenty of rest, and making sure they eat a good breakfast the days of the tests.
Just a reminder to all parents and students: no electronic devices are allowed in the testing locations. This includes but is not limited to cell phones, ipods, tablets, nooks, etc. Any such devices on campus must be off and secured in the student’s locker. Should parents need to communicate with their child in an emergency situation, please contact the main office at 387-6322.
Thank you for your flexibility!
Security in schools has become a very important topic over the past several years as we have witnessed tragedies at Columbine, Virginia Tech and most recently in Newtown, CT. Roanoke County Schools has taken steps to ensure that your children are safe every day that they attend school. A new safety measure is being employed this year at all schools that will require all visitors to our schools – including parents, grandparents, etc. – to register in the office, or at other designated areas, before entering the main school building. You are encouraged to allot a little bit of extra time when picking up your child. At Glenvar High School and Glenvar Middle School parents must report to the main office first. Please have your driver’s license ready when signing in. We know that this is an inconvenience, however, as parents, we must recognize that a few extra minutes spent on the process could potentially protect the students and staff at Glenvar.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…
Should you have any questions about this new process, please do not hesitate to contact Joe Hafey (principal / GHS) or Jamie Soltis (principal / GMS).
