LEAVE NO DOUBT!!
Parents and Staff: The following days are now school days due to our being out for inclement weather: March 23rd, April 3rd & May 25th
Due to the number of school days we have missed recently, the SOL writing tests have been postponed one week. Please see the new schedule below:
All 8th grade students will be taking their Writing SOL assessments on Tuesday, 3/10/15 (Multiple Choice), and Wednesday, 3/11/15 (Short Essay). The tests will be administered beginning at 10:00 am on Tuesday, 3/10/15 and at 9:15 am on Wednesday, 3/11/15. 8th graders will eat lunch from 1:15-1:45 on these testing days.
Good attendance for the SOL tests is encouraged.
Parents can support their students by reviewing material with them, encouraging they get plenty of rest, and making sure they eat a good breakfast the day of the tests.
Just a reminder to all parents and students: no electronic devices are allowed in the testing locations. This includes but is not limited to cell phones, ipods, tablets, nooks, etc. Any such devices on campus must be off and secured in the student’s locker. Should parents need to communicate with their child in an emergency situation, please contact the main office at 387-6322.
Thank you for supporting your child and Glenvar Middle School!
StudentVue is now active for students to begin using. They will access their accounts by going to the following URL: https://vue.rcs.k12.va.us/
The username and password for each student is the same as their Blackboard account. Student VUE screens look almost exactly like the Parent VUE screens. Please click on the link for directions: To access your StudentVUE account copy
Security in schools has become a very important topic over the past several years as we have witnessed tragedies at Columbine, Virginia Tech and most recently in Newtown, CT. Roanoke County Schools has taken steps to ensure that your children are safe every day that they attend school. A new safety measure is being employed this year at all schools that will require all visitors to our schools – including parents, grandparents, etc. – to register in the office, or at other designated areas, before entering the main school building. You are encouraged to allot a little bit of extra time when picking up your child. At Glenvar High School and Glenvar Middle School parents must report to the main office first. Please have your driver’s license ready when signing in. We know that this is an inconvenience, however, as parents, we must recognize that a few extra minutes spent on the process could potentially protect the students and staff at Glenvar.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3…
Should you have any questions about this new process, please do not hesitate to contact Joe Hafey (principal / GHS) or Jamie Soltis (principal / GMS).
