Image 1
Claude Oscar Monet was born in Paris in 1840. He studied art as a teenager and became a well-known artist and a founder of the Impressionist Style of art. He painted and drew simple landscapes using oil paint or oil pastels.

The Impressionist Style of art was named after Monet's painting titles "Impressionist Sunrise" (1874). The Impressionists used light and reflection instead of actual realism in their works. Monet painted several scenes numerous times using different times of day and times of the year to get a different "feel" for each.

The Impressionist style is described in ArtLex as:

E - Everyday Life
L - Light
B - Brushstrokes
O - Outdoor Setting
W - Weather and Atmosphere

Monet died in 1926 in Giverny. He was a famous, well-received artist in his lifetime and remains a very popular artist in the 21st century.
