The Guidance Department welcomes you to CSMS.  Parents and students are encouraged to contact their child’s counselor to discuss any concerns they may have involving the educational, vocational or socio-personal development of students.

The guidance staff consists of the following:

  • Mrs. Joan Farley, Guidance Coordinator
  • Mr. Ryan Reynolds, Counselor
  • Ms. Kim Lescure, Guidance Secretary

* Students (grades 6-8) are assigned to counselors alphabetically by last name.

The Guidance Center is located at the end of the hall next to the library. Counselors are available throughout the day to help you with educational and vocational planning as well as academic, personal and social problems. Conferences must be scheduled through the Guidance office in advance except for extreme emergencies. Students should see the Guidance Office Secretary before homeroom begins in order to schedule an appointment. Parents are urged to schedule conferences during the school year for any reason.

Appointments may be scheduled as needed. Students wishing to see counselors during class time or for emergencies, should register with the guidance secretary who will notify counselors. You will be contacted by a counselor as soon as possible.

Career Center:

The Career Center, located in the guidance area, is open to parents as well as students during school hours and before or after school by appointment.  Computer programs are available on occupations, two year colleges, four year colleges, graduate and professional schools, and financial aid.  Information is also available on private schools, apprenticeship programs and military services.

Guidance Advisory Committee:

The primary function of the guidance Advisory Committee is to establish a formal communication link between the various groups being served by the guidance program and the program itself.   It provides a channel for information, understanding, and programmatic concepts to flow between representatives of the groups served and the counselors and school.  The committee members may serve as follows:

  • assist in determining needs
  • assist with the planning and execution of chosen activities
  • serve as public relations agents
  • assist with the establishment of a calendar of events or activities and/or provide resrouces for specific activities

This committee consists of staff, parents and students.  Parents or students interested in serving on this committee, please contact Mrs. Joan Farley.

Special Services:

Progress Reports (other than interims):

Prior to implementation of this reporting method, a parent/teacher conference is necessary to increase effectiveness and allow for more parent/teacher communication.

Study Skills Groups:

Study Skills groups will be available after interim of the 1st nine weeks.  Groups will be open to students who request participation or who are referred by teachers or parents.   Groups will be scheduled before or after school.

Student Tutor Program:

Student tutors are available to help other students.  All tutoring is done at school with no charge (normally before school or during study hall).

(If interested in further information regarding any of these Special Services, contact your Guidance Counselor.)

Student Assistance Program (SAP)

The primary purpose of the Student Assistance Program is to provide education, assistance, and support for students affected by their own or others' drug and alcohol related problems. An essential feature of the program is that students and their family members are encouraged to contact the program with alcohol and other drug related problems, with the assurance that such contacts will be handled sensitively and confidentially. To schedule an appointment with the Student Assistance Coordinator, please contact the guidance department.
