As the health services expert, the school nurse serves as the health professional for the school community and provides the following services:
- Illness, injury assessments and interventions, identification, assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of student health concerns.
- Health assessments/participation in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development.
- Training of staff for health procedures such as, gastrostomy feedings, catheterizations, colostomy care, etc.
- Screening for health factors impacting student education.
- Activities and education to promote health and prevent teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, tobacco use and alcohol and substance abuse.
- Chronic disease management and education.
- Individualized Health Care Plans and services for students with disabilities and/or health conditions that interfere with learning
- Medication administration
- Assessment and interventions for students with mental health needs

Whether a student is needing daily or "as needed use" medication
here at school, OR they are going on a Field Trip ~ the policy is the same.
- Medication Administration Forms must be completed, with a parent's signature and dosing directions.
- If the medication is prescription a physician's signature is also required.
- All medications must be in their original containers for "SAFE" administration.
- Students are allowed to carry their own lip balm and cough drops
Asthma:
If you have asthma and you carry an inhaler to school you must have an Asthma Action Card on file. Click Here to download this form or you may pick up a copy in the Nurse's Office (located inside the Computer Depot).
