“A” Day
The Film Club will watch "West World" Wednesday evening at 6:00 in room 106.
Attention 8th grade students- there will be an interest meeting at CSHS next Wednesday from 4:00- 5:00 PM. Please plan to attend.
Congratulations to the Academic Team for their performance at last Saturday's VHSL Regional Tournament. The team came in 1st place beating out rival Christiansburg twice and earned a #1 seed into the state tournament on February 25th. Special kudos goes to Michael Zhang, James Cole and Maddie Burton for leading much of the scoring. Wish your team good luck as they prepare for states.
Congratulations to the boys basketball team for their 58-48 victory over Hidden Valley last night. Amin Abuhawwas led the Knights with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Ryan Gladfelter added 14 points and great defense. Thanks to all the students and faculty who came out to support the team!
Attention Middle School Students-
Each year one 8th grade boy and one 8th grade girl are selected to be “the Squire” and “My Lady.” The faculty and staff nominated these students for this honor based on character, leadership, academics and service. The following students are the final nominees.

The After Prom Committee would like your help planning this year's party! Come to a meeting on Tuesday Feb. 7 at 6:00 pm, in room 139 and bring your ideas on how to make this the best After Prom ever! This year's theme is Mardi Gras.
Attention all athletes interested in participating on the outdoor track team this spring. There will be an interest meeting Wednesday February 8th in the auditorium at 6:30 pm. All returning athletes are required to attend.

Attention 8th grade boys interested in trying out for Cave Spring Middle School’s baseball team: There will be an open gym session this afternoon from 4:30 to 6:oo pm at the Starkey Park #1 field. Bus 71 will leave from Cave Spring Elementary today and drop off at Starkey Park.

The After Prom Committee would like your help planning this year's party! Come to a meeting on Tuesday Feb. 7 at 6:00 pm, in room 139 and bring your ideas on how to make this the best After Prom ever! This year's theme is Mardi Gras.
Attention all boys planning to try out for JV or Varsity soccer this spring: There will be a meeting on Thursday, February 9th in the library after school at 4pm. If you plan on trying out, you need to attend this meeting unless you are playing a current winter sport. Let Coach Collins know if you are unable to make it or have any questions.
Attention Seniors:
The deadlines for submitting the FAFSA is rapidly approaching for many colleges and universities. Virginia Western is sponsoring a Super Saturday workshop Saturday February 4th from 10am to 2:30 pm for students applying for financial aid beginning in the fall of 2012. Financial Aid staff from area colleges and universities will be present to assist you in completing and submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to ANY college.
Today's golf conditioning is cancelled. We will resume workouts next Tuesday and Thursday.

Congratulations to the girls swim team on their big win last night at the Region IV Championships in Christiansburg. The team combined for 3 relay wins and 4 individual event wins. Congratulations to Jackie Crawford and Maggie Harman for winning both of their individual events. Relay team winners were Jackie Crawford, Maggie Harman, Hailey Bivens, Lauren Cowher, Gail Adams, Amory Mayo and Sandy Chang. Andie Van Kerckhove also qualified for states in individual events. A total of 8 girls will advance to the state meet next weekend. Great job Knights!
The boys swim and dive team placed 5th out of 10 teams last night at the Region IV Championships. Congratulations to Jacob Siar for winning both of his individual events. Jerry Huang, Jared Adams, Teddy Melnik, and Jack Woody will also advance to the state meet next weekend. Great job Knights!

Attention 8th grade boys trying out for Cave Spring Middle School’s baseball team: There will be an open gym baseball session from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at the Starkey Park batting cages also on Thursday.
Congratulations to the men’s and women’s indoor track teams on their awesome performance last night at the River Ridge District Championships held at Virginia Tech.
The women’s team finished a very strong fourth place with the following athletes scoring. Marta Timmermann placed 6th in 55 hurdles and 5th in the high jump. Imani Sowell placed 4th in the shot put. Katie Fortner placed 1st in the 1600, 1st in the 3200 breaking a school record in a time of 11:05. Katie also placed 2nd in the high jump with a 6 inch PR at a height of 5-2. The women’s 4x200 relay team was 5th, 4x400 6th, and 4x800 3rd.
The men’s team placed an amazing 3rd place overall with the highest finish since 2007. Placing for the men’s team was John Wiggins who was 6th in the 3200 meter run. Patrick Truskey placed 6th in the shot. Cody Seymour placed 1st in the 1600 breaking the River Ridge District Record in a time of 4:22. Cody also placed 2nd in the 3200 breaking that record as well. The men’s 4x400 team was 6th and the 4x800 team placed 3rd.
Way to go Knights!

Attention Film Club members: The showing of "Westworld" planned for this week has been postponed.
Congratulations to the men's and women's indoor track team for the great performances this past Friday and Saturday at Virginia Tech. A special congratulations to Katie Fortner who placed 2nd in the mile run invitational and broke the school record with a time of 4:58. Cody Seymour also placed 2nd in the mile run invitational with a time of 4:21. Cody time was the fastest indoor mile run in 13 years.
Good luck to the men's and women's indoor track teams as they travel to Virginia Tech tonight for the River Ridge District Championships. A reminder to all athletes to be at CSHS by 4:00 pm and the bus will leave at 4:15 pm.

Can you hear that? Me neither, because it is your DEAD cell phone collecting dust at your house!!!!! We need your broken, non-working, unused, antenna having cell phones and we need them now! Each cell phone is recycled and the profits are used to make calling cards for service men and women overseas. The Pep Club is collecting used cell phones for the next 2 weeks. You can bring your cell phone to the front office and drop it in the official Cell Phone for Soldiers box or see Ms. Ficarro in Room 205! Make it real…..make it right….

Congratulations to the girls swim team for winning the 2012 River Ridge District swim meet last night at Christiansburg. The girls team combined for a total of 7 first place finishes, including winning all 3 relay events. Congratulations to district champions Hailey Bivens, Jackie Crawford, Maggie Harman, Lauren Cowher, Gail Adams, Amory Mayo and Sandy Chang. In addition, Andie VanKerckhove and Nicole Podlecki had top 8 finishes to qualify them for the Region meet next Tuesday. A total of 9 swimmers qualified for the Region meet. This marks the first girls district championship in at least the last 7 years. CONGRATULATIONS and great job to the ENTIRE girls team.
The boys swim and dive team had great performances at the district meet last night, finishing 4th place as a team. Jacob Siar led the team by winning both of his individual events. Other top 8 finishers qualifying for the Region meet include Jack Woody, Jerry Huang, Teddy Melnik, Aaron Sortore, Jared Adams, Mark Mercier, and Dominic Russo. CONGRATULATIONS and great job to the ENTIRE boys team.
Geometry Remediation with Mrs. Hartley is canceled for this afternoon. It is rescheduled for Thursday morning before school.
Congratulations to the debate team for their performance at last night's Southwest Virginia Forensics League Championships. Special kudos go to Rebekah Wellons and Lydia Hoeppner for placing 1st in Public Forum debate and Colleen Truskey for placing 4th in Lincoln-Douglas debate. There will be a mandatory meeting for all members of the Men's Lacrosse Team on Wednesday January 25th at 6:30PM in the library.
Congratulations to the girls swim team for closing out an undefeated regular season on Friday night with a 97 to 73 win over Hidden Valley. First place finishers were Gail Adams, Jackie Crawford, Lauren Cowher, Amory Mayo, Hailey Bivens, Maggie Harman, and Nicole Podlecki. The boys team swam very well but were unable to beat the Titans, Jacob Siar won both of his individual events and several others finished in the top 3. Great job Knights! The Knights will travel to Christiansburg tomorrow evening for the District meet.
Congratulations to the Academic Team for their performance at two tournaments this past two weekends. At the Nitro High School Tournament, the team took 1st place while this past weekend, the team also took 1st place at the Carrboro Cup. Special kudos go to Michael Zhang, James Cole, Maddie Burton, Troy Von Beck and Anna Smith. Wish your team good luck as they head into the VHSL District Tournament being held here at the school this Wednesday.
