Reading

Ms. Coats, Reading Specialist

Reading failure is preventable in most students. Clearbrook Elementary seeks to promote successful readers by providing an environment where the opportunity to read is fostered not only by time and curriculum but also by accessibility to wonderful books in the school library, classroom, and at home.

Clearbrook Strives to use its staff members to prevent reading failure at an early age. Small group instruction, concentration on a balanced approach to literacy and parental support at home has helped our students to become successful, happy readers throughout life.
Students are encouraged to read a favorite book at least 15 minutes per day independently. Students are rewarded for their efforts through the Accelerated Reader program. This is an incentive program that rewards students for reading independently. Through out the year students are awarded point prizes and field trips for reading books and acquiring points from AR (computerized comprehension tests.)

Clearbrook parents are encouraged to read with or beside their children daily. Research supports, our own instincts know, and thousands of years attest to the huge positive impact reading aloud has on the listener. One of the many benefits is an increase in the student’s reading level as he/she is immersed in literature. Another benefit is the creation of a passion for reading, a lifetime leisure activity.
