Famous Virginians Report

 Standards: Virginia Studies SOLs: 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b, 7b, and 9c

        After you are assigned a Famous Virginian, click on their name below. Visit the website links on that page and print out information you think is necessary and important for your report and presentation (this may be done at school as well as on your home computer). You may also use books, encyclopedias, and other websites to gather information. You will need to gather your information from at least three different sources. These sources must be included in a bibliography (see the information under Structure). You will also need to follow the outline as you answer the questions which will help you to gather the necessary information about your Famous Virginian. Do not write on your outline. Your information needs to be written on either separate sheets of paper or 3x5 note cards.

Assessment

Written Report  

**Your written report will be graded using the following criteria:

Neatness - 20 points:

·        The informational part of your report must be typed using a 12-point font, such as Times Roman, and 1 inch margins on each side.

Grammar - 30 points:

·        Your report must display correct grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure. (HINT: Don't forget to use the Spell and Grammar Check)

Structure - 50 points - Your report must include the following:

1.      A cover or title page with the Famous Virginian's name at the top of the page, a large picture of him/her in the middle of the page (drawn or a computer print), and your name at the bottom of the page.

2.      The informational pages must contain at least four full paragraphs and follow the information required on the outline.

3.      You must include a list of the sources you used to write your report. Your bibliography or reference list must follow the guidelines for works cited:

·        Identify all of your sources in an alphabetical list according to the author's last name.

·        When a listing is more that one line long, all lines after the first line should be indented.

·        If the name of the author is not given in the article or book, begin with the title of the article or book.

·        Incorrectly written entries will not be accepted.
