Life Skills
This group curriculum (Youth Connection or Life Skills Training) is for students referred to SAP with difficulties in developing healthy relationships or healthy coping skills. Students learn about a broad range of topics including communication skills, assertiveness, self-image, decision-making skills, social skills, coping with anxiety, and facts and dangers pertaining to alcohol and other drugs.
Conflict Resolution
This group curriculum (Too Good For Violence or Aggressors, Victims and Bystanders) is for students referred to SAP that have frequent conflict with others (either verbal or physical). The curriculum focuses on four main areas including conflict resolution, anger management, respect for self and others, and effective communication. Students learn about how conflicts occur and how they can avoid and limit their involvement in both verbal and physical conflict. They also learn about anger and how to identify and express their emotions in an acceptable manner. They learn about respect and acceptance of others and their differences. Finally, they learn how to listen and how to communicate effectively.
Anger Management
This group curriculum (Handling Your Anger, Anger Management and Violence Prevention, or Fighting Invisible Tigers) is for students referred to SAP that have continued difficulty managing their anger across settings to the point that it interferes with their relationships with teachers, peers, and/or parents. This curriculum focuses on teaching students about anger triggers, anger cues, and strategies that can be used to avoid negative outbursts and negative interactions with others when becoming angry.
Substance Abuse Prevention
This group curriculum (Too Good For Drugs) is for students referred to SAP with specific concerns related to potential future substance abuse. This group is NOT for students with a current or past history of substance abuse. Students learn about goal setting, communication skills, peer pressure and assertiveness skills, and an intensive look at the facts about alcohol and drugs and the effects on the body.
Substance Abuse Intervention
This group curriculum (Tobacco Free or Can I Handle Alcohol/Drugs?) is for students referred to SAP that are current substance users or substance abusers. The focus of this curriculum is to assist students in understanding the dynamics surrounding their use and to assist them with cessation if they are motivated toward that goal.
