  • US & VA History: The eleventh grade social studies curriculum focuses on the historical development of American ideals and institutions from the Age of Exploration to the present. While focusing on political and economic history, the standards provide students with a basic knowledge of American culture through a chronological survey of major issues, movements, people, and events in United States and Virginia history. Multicultural themes are studied throughout the year.

  • Advanced Placement U.S and Virginia History is designed to provide students with the analytic skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in American history. The program should prepare students for intermediate college courses by offering a course which is equivalent to a full-year introductory college course. Students should learn to assess historical materials by determining their relevance, their reliability, and their importance. This course fulfills the United States and Virginia history requirement for graduation. College credit may be earned by taking the AP U.S. History Exam.

  • Dual US & VA History:This course is equivalent to a full-year introductory college course with college credit awarded upon successful completion of the course. The instructors will be adjunct faculty members at Virginia Western Community College. The exam exemption will not apply in this course. Students taking this course may take the AP History exam if they wish. This course fulfills the United States and Virginia History requirement for graduation.
