From Mrs. Long: "We hope to start off with a bang in Music, literally: Marching, playing percussion instruments, reading music, tapping into our musical memory, writing lyrics, and even writing rhythms. Now that the music room has been outfitted with an ActivBoard, your students will begin to incorporate a new mode of learning with these music activities. We will focus on singing throughout the school year, incorporate both pitched and un-pitched percussion instruments, the recorder, and the baritone ukelele as often as we can. We will also continue classroom experiences that focus on enhancing personal growth and self image through musical expression. Programs start soon but the schedule has not yet been finalized, and as they are, notice will be posted on the Bonsack home page in the REMINDERS section. We will continue to have first graders present in spring, and in May, Kindergarten will present the union of Mr. Q and Ms. U. :o) " Did you know? Mrs. Long has been Bonsack's music teacher since the doors opened in 1999. She has been teaching in Roanoke County since 1977, and in Suffolk City Schools prior to that. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Education from VA Tech and a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Radford . As an undergrad, Mrs. Long obtained her license to teach General Mathematics along with a concentration in computer programming, and in 2007, completed her Administrative license through VDOE. Working with our computers as webmaster, email admin for Bonsack, and computer coordinator, plus serving on the PTA Board to represent technology, Mrs. Long dedicates much of her time making sure the learning environment for Bonsack students and teachers is "up and running." |
